Focus on your health and wellness

I am not a nutritionist, a fitness coach, or a wellness coach. What I am is someone who has struggled with staying on track with managing my fitness and nutrition goals. Life is busy and it is easy to become distracted by other commitments, responsibilities, and life in general. This month we'll be focusing on health and wellness goals. Each week we will talk about different topics related to health and wellness, including diet, exercise, sleep, overwhelm and anxiety, and having a positive circle.

I put together my blog calendar in July and at the time, I thought through my own patterns and when I find I get off track. For me, the holiday season is often a tough time because of all of the events, obligations and social engagements. It is a time of celebration, cold weather, and lots of rich food. I wanted this topic to be on the calendar before it all began. Partially selfishly. I also need a reminder to stay focused on the goal. Weight is something I struggle with. I am a stress eater. I'm not perfect.

Most of my life my weight has gone up and down. I have dieted, exercised, and ridden the rollercoaster. I have found that what matters for me more than weight is how I feel. When I eat well and exercise regularly, I feel better, I sleep better, and I am more positive. This month, that is what I want to focus on. I'm going to share books, resources, techniques and more.

I will also share what I am up to personally on my Instagram and Facebook feed. Today, I ran a 5k. For me, that is an accomplishment. I have never been a great runner. I made myself a promise though this year and I'm pushing myself to accomplish what would have seemed impossible not that long ago. My second 5k is next weekend and my first 10k EVER is in early November.

As I have shared before, EDIT is an acronym. Empower, Design, Innovate and Transform. Personally, I have used it to make huge changes personally in the last year and a half. This month I want you to do so also.

I set 4 goals for myself a little over a year ago. I still have the same four goals. They target 4 areas of my life: Health, Family, Finances, and Business. This month I am going to be putting special effort into achieving my health goal. I am still focused on my family, finances, and business. When I can combine my goals, I feel truly blessed.

Last week, my children came home with paperwork about the 21 Day Challenge through Medical City. We are talking about eating healthy and making fun, and creative snacks. They have been enjoying looking at cookbooks and finding kid-friendly recipes. We went to the public library and checked out children's cookbooks to explore new options.

This month I will be able to work with my children to meal plan healthy choices and recipes, continue focusing on my own personal fitness goals, share with you about the process, what we learn and great resources and tools, and minimize our food costs by planning ahead. All four goals addressed in a simple and straightforward way.
